Criticism of “Arts Criticism”

And now, for an entertaining hour on Arts Criticism......the adjudicator exits with a jester’s bow

At the Second Caribbean International Arts Education Symposium at the University of the West Indies, Steve Ouditt, Nicholas Laughlin, Louis Regis and Leon Wainwright presented their papers to a parse audience. The hour long lecture was moderated by Annie Paul.

Dr. Leon Wainwright began his findings by questioning the curatorial decision from a traveling art exhibition in America. America, Black Power Movement and Art, failed he said to acknowledge Caribbean Blacks in the show. The editor of Caribbean Beat, Mr. Nicholas Laughlin spoke of the humble beginnings of the Caribbean Book Review and its struggle to be published in Trinidad and Tobago, and Steve Ouditt debated over the role in selecting artwork from a curatorial level.
