Nan Goldin's abusive boyfriend

" What you need is a good slap Brian", after Nan and Brian in bed, NYC

Perhaps one of the two most famous photographs by Nan Goldin. The other is a self portrait of her black eye from "Brian". Her work is based on relationships mostly underground of transsexuals, love, lost and acts of narcissism.

"Among Goldin's greatest strengths is her use of color as a catalyst for amplifying
the emotional tenor of the moment. In one of her better-known images, Nan and Brian
in Bed, NYC, 1983, the scene is suffused with a crepuscular orange glow that palpably captures the lugubrious mood of a dying relationship". - the nan goldin story by Mia Fineman
